MochiKit 1.1 Intro Screencast
I just put together the first MochiKit screencast! Check it out: MochiKit_Intro-1.mov [13:24 23M H.264 AAC QuickTime 640x480] (raw transcript, archive.org entry). The screencast is confirmed playable with QuickTime 7 and VLC 0.8.2.
This screencast is an introduction to MochiKit 1.1, using the interactive interpreter example as a conduit for showing off concepts from each MochiKit module.
MochiKit is a lightweight javascript library that brings in rich agile language features expected to users of Python and other such languages, with AJAX and DOM facilities for rapid web application development.

Very cool. does mochikit require a client install?

Wow, that was quite awesome! I’m admittedly a javascript novice, although have many years of “traditional” development experience. The vast majority of that is in non-Functional languages, however, and some of the nice functional stuff you showed off in the demo were quite impressive. As I’m just starting to get interested in JSON and Ajax, I’m definitely going to check this out more. The screencast was an extremely effective way to demonstrate this. Thanks!

It was great - the second time through I even understood it ;-). Seriously, I did find that the first viewing was great at whetting my appetite but after “hacking around a bit” I went back and viewed it again to help me understand some more of the finer points…
Realizing that some of the ideas in MK are based on python I wish I’d learnt python - unfortunately my webhost doesn’t support it and I’m already invested in PHP…
Thank you for taking the time to put together the webcast.

Nice balance between showing off some of the capabilities of mochi, while not getting too cryptic.
Maybe for the next show, you could make an in-depth explanation of the iter library. For programmers like myself, not comming from a python background, the usage isn’t always entirely obvious, but I have a clear feeling that I’m missing out on something good.
A proper introduction with lots of examples would be very helpful.
